The Moreton family came to the Moors Farm from
a Welsh hill farm over 100 years ago.
The present owners and descendants Mr. &
Mrs. W.J. Moreton have extended the original 200 year old farmhouse
to facilitate the offering of bed and breakfast accommodation which
Mrs. Moreton has made available for the past 40 years.
Moors Farm is a mixed farm situated in a pretty
valley surrounded by woods and on the beautiful Shropshire border.
It is only one mile from the centre of the village of Codsall where
buses are available to busy Wolverhampton (just 5 miles away). There
is a railway station with direct links to Birmingham, London, Telford,
Shrewsbury, Chester and of course Wolverhampton.
The village has a shopping area with a variety
of shops and pubs; a modern leisure centre and three churches of
different denominations. Codsall was the original home of Russell
Lupins at Bakers nurseries and also of Sir Charles Wheeler the sculptor.
The oldest surviving building in the village other than St. Nicholas
Parish Church is the old Manor house which dates from the 16th century.
A short walk down the lane from the farm is
the Lepers Well; a sulphur well which is reputed to cure all ills,
including Leprosy and nearby is the very old Leper House Farm reputed
to have been a Leper colony. For those who enjoy a good walk, the
long distance Staffordshire Way footpath passes only ¼ mile
from the hotel.
3-4 miles away is Boscobel House and Moseley
Old Hall where Charles II stayed and used as hiding holes after
his defeat at the hands of Cromwell’s troups at the battle
of Worcester and also the excellent Cosford Aerospace Museum.
